Movie Night - Ansari X-Prize Documentary

[ View the flyer ]

On our second movie event, we'll take you on an exciting space journey over 100kms above the Earth as we see how SpaceShipOne breaks a 41 year old altitude record for winged aircraft to win the Anasri X-Prize.

The Ansari X-Prize blesses the winner with a cool $US10 million to jumpstart the space tourism industry through competition among the most talented entrepreneurs and rocket experts in the world. The cash prize will be awarded to the first team that:

  • Privately finances, builds & launches a spaceship, able to carry three people to 100 kilometres
  • Returns safely to the Earth
  • Repeats the launch with the same ship within two weeks

The Ansari X-Prize competition follows in the footsteps of more than 100 aviation incentive prizes offered between 1905 and 1935 which created today's multibillion dollar air transport industry.

For those of you who aren't fortunate to be in the Engineering aerospace field, do you wonder why Microsoft Co-Founder Paul Allen has sponsored the winner to the tune of $US25 million, and many other of the dot-com high-tech millionares are also getting into the game? What about Richard Branson's new Virgin Galactic fleet, using a licensed SpaceShipOne design?

This is a not-to-be-missed screening of a historic event relevant to Engineers from all disciplines. The footage to be shown on the night is truely on the bleeding edge: the Ansari X-Prize was won only one week ago!

This is a free pizza event -- IEEE events... yum!
