Region 10 Student Congress 2004
|
The UniMelb student branch was fortunate to represent all Victoria Section student branches at the R10 Student Congress, held in Hong Kong from 16-18th July 2004. An overview of Victorian student branches was presented to the congress by John Papandriopoulos (Chair, 2004), with the topic "The Game of Life: from Nodes to Networks" (PowerPoint format). This talk played on an analogy of the Game of Life (created by John Conway, a Princeton Mathematics professor): it linked the game to student branch networking and development, from individual units (nodes) into something far greater (networks). The major outcome of the congress was networking: the branch did very well in this regard and has made itself widely known throughout the region. It is hoped that collaborative links are continually forged with other branches both locally in Australia, and more importantly, regionally. Technologies such as VoIP can help greatly in this regard, and to this end, a slide pack was created and distributed (PowerPoint format) to make a first step in this direction. Upon returning from Hong Kong, John hosted a debrief session (PowerPoint format) with representatives from other Victorian Student Branches (RMIT University and Monash University). |
